Art Around Athens (And Beyond)

 This Friday, November 6, the Monroe Art Guild is hosting an opening reception for the exhibition “Wood and Stone” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The exhibition will feature the work of Dan Thoman. For more information and a map go to www.monroeartguild.com.


Also Friday, White Tiger Gourmet Food & Chocolates is hosting a FREE Day of the Dead celebration and reception with an exhibition by local Latina pottery collective Casa de Cultura. Expect traditional holiday snacks and treats, a live performance by Incatepec and an altar to the dead.

Friday as well, the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation is hosting the FREE opening reception for the exhibition “Cloudy with a Chance of Flowers,” which features recent paintings by Madeline Darnell, from 6 to 9 p.m. Call 706.769.4565 with any questions.

Saturday in Sandy Springs the 23rd Annual Art Show and Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Abernathy Arts Center. The sale will include art from many of Abernathy’s finest artists including paintings in oil and acrylic, pastels and watercolors, as well as handmade and wheel-thrown pottery. Sunday at ATHICA from 3 to 6 p.m. there will be a closing reception and panel discussion for the exhibition “Free Press in Free Fall,” which features work by 13 artists (including museum security guard Ed Tant) addressing the current state of the American news media. The discussion will be open forum, and the reception is free.
