Good Dirt Halloween Party

Good Dirt, Athens’ local pottery studio and gallery will be hosting its annual Halloween bash tomorrow, October 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. You’ll be able to see new work by Jeff Williams, Mike Klapthor and Sarah Visser. In addition to the exhibition, there will be magic tricks, tasty refreshments and you can even bring your instrument for or just listen to a live acoustic music jam. Don’t miss out—it sounds like a great time!

Earlier that same day, as Clarke County schools are out, Good Dirt will be hosting a special kids’ workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The kids will be able to make Thanksgiving-themed projects. Make sure to call and register your kids.

Good Dirt has various classes year-round, from basic pottery wheel classes to glass fusing. Good Dirt also hosts birthday parties and can even bring workshops to your event. The studio and gallery are both located on the corner of Thomas and Dougherty Streets, north of the Classic Center. Call 706.355.3161 or email info.gooddirt@gmail.com for more information.

Scare up a Harvest

It’s almost Halloween, so get in the spirit and come see some fun scarecrows with us on Saturday, October 24 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Lyndon House Arts Center! Groups, individuals and organizations, including GMOA (which plans to make a “Blow Oskar” scarecrow) will be creating the scarecrows for display at the Lyndon House. The entry fee to view and vote on the scarecrows is 15-ounce pop-top cans of ravioli. These will go to the Food Bank’s Food 2 Kids program, a partnership between the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and the Junior League of Athens. You can take a tour of the scarecrow exhibit, the Historic Ware-Lyndon House and Lord Love You: Works by R. A. Miller from the Mullis Collection. The scarecrows will then move to Chase Street Elementary and be on display as part of the Outdoor Classroom Symposium. Check out the event flyer. The event is co-sponsored by the Athens-Clarke County Recycling Division, the Food Bank and the Junior League of Athens.

Want to build your own scarecrow for the event? Armatures and guidelines will be available until October 17. Email carolineself@co.clarke.ga.us for more information or see the information here. The ACC Recycling Division encourages participants to make scarecrows with discarded materials. There will be prizes for the best scarecrows!
