“A Tool to Deceive and Slaughter”
Not sure what to get that special someone this Valentines Day? Head on over to eBay and place a bid on Caleb Larson’s sculpture “A Tool to Deceive and Slaughter,” but don’t get too attached. In as little as a week it could belong to someone else. This is because Larson’s sculpture contains an electronic component within its black, acrylic box exterior that connects to the Internet via a wired Ethernet and places itself up for auction on eBay every seven days. Each new owner can set the starting bid, and any amount he or she makes beyond the artist’s initial price of $2,500 is profit, minus a 15 percent royalty for Larson.
For more information, check out this article on Slog and an interview with one of the work’s owners.
