Kinetic Sculpture

Jonathan Schipper's sculpture The Slow Inevitable Death of American Muscle moves a lot more slowly than most kinetic sculpture, but this site devoted to it uses time-lapse photography really nicely to show its progress from start to finish. Is something as compelling but morally questionable to watch as a car crash somehow sanitized by the application of extremely slow motion? Or is our enjoyment of crunching metal rendered more disturbing with time for contemplation? Schipper's sculpture is certainly beautiful, especially if you like muscle cars (or maybe even more so if you don't!), but it's also interesting as sculpture, even apart from the big ideas it may be raising.
