"Balseros"
Tomorrow, the Latin American Film Series, co-sponsored by the Georgia Museum of Art and the Latin American & Caribbean Studies Institute, begins with the showing of “Balseros” at 7 p.m. in room 150 of the Zell B. Miller Learning Center.
“Balseros,” co-directed by Carlos Bosch and Josep Maria Domènech, tells the stories of seven rafters who fled the economic crisis in Cuba in 1994. This documentary is filmed over a seven-year period and includes interviews from the refugees who describe their experiences from building the rafts to adjusting to life in the United States.
Miguel Vicente, director of library services at Commerce Public Library, will present an introduction to the film. Vicente shares a similar background with the people in this film. He too fled to the United States from Cuba on a raft.
Spanish with English subtitles, 120 minutes, 2002
