First Annual Art Awards



Ron Pruitt will present the “First Annual Art Awards” at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum on Oct. 29, 2009. Conceived as a work of art in itself, “Art Awards” will recognize individuals, exhibitions and projects that have had a significant influence on contemporary art.

Well-known individuals such as Sofia Coppola, James Franco and Mary-Kate Olsen will announce winners from the 11 categories. Artist Joan Jonas and curator Kasper König will also be honored for lifetime achievement. A council of more than 400 artists and art professionals selected the nominees.

“Art Awards” is sponsored by the Calvin Klein Collection and presented in association with White Columns. Net proceeds from this event will go to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, White Columns and Studio in A School, which are all not-for-profit organizations.
