Work of Art: The Next Great Artist, a new reality TV show, is coming to Bravo on June 9. Artists will compete for a solo show at the Brooklyn Museum as well as a cash prize. China Chow, actress and art enthusiast, is the host. The show’s producers are Magical Elves, Inc. and Sarah Jessica Parker’s production company, Pretty Matches.
The judging panel includes Bill Powers, a New York gallery owner, Jerry Saltz, art critic for New York Magazine and Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn, curator and owner of Salon94 gallery. Simon de Pury, art auctioneer, will be the contestants’ mentor.
Each week, contestants will create pieces in various media, from painting and sculpture to industrial design. The assignments are “exciting, original and will challenge the artists to push the limits of their technical skills and creative boundaries.” Once completed, the pieces will be judged and appraised to select whose work is best that week.
One of Artforum’s writers got a chance to attend a screening of the first episode and a Q&A session with the show’s host, judges and producers. Click here to see the article.
